abstract

  • The Vudelement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix can be determined from several different experimental approaches: based on either 0-→0+superallowed nuclear β decays, neutron decay, nuclear mirror decays, or pion β decay. Currently all give consistent results but, because the nuclear superallowed value has an uncertainty at least a factor of six less than all other results, it dominates any average. We present the results from all four approaches and recommended the value | Vud|= 0.97425(22). © 2009 American Institute of Physics.
