Modeling virus and antivirus spreading over hybrid wireless ad hoc and wired networks Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • Virus propagation in the Internet has resulted in significant loss and security breaches. Although significant research effort has been spent on developing antivirus software tools, the propagating dynamics of virus and antivirus is not thoroughly investigated. Both virus and antivirus have similar propagation characteristics to some extent counteracting each other. The spreading dynamics of most viruses are network topology dependent making the investigation a challenging problem. In this paper, we model and analyze the spreading characteristics of viruses as coexisting with the anti-virus spreading process in a modified two-layer small-world topology for hybrid wireless ad hoc and wired networks. We simulate our proposed virus and antivirus model over the hybrid wireless ad hoc and wired networks and arrive at conclusion which can be used by for developing cost effective antivirus solutions. 2007 IEEE.
