abstract
We investigate cross-layer design based rate control for mobile multicast over broadcast fading channels in cellular networks. Specifically, subject to a statistical loss-rate quality-of-service (QoS) constraint required by upper protocol layers, we aim at maximizing the physical-layer throughput by taking advantage of transmission-rate adaptation based on the channel state information (CSI). Using the concept of convex hull and instantaneous sum goodput - throughput gain (IGTG), we derive the optimal rate adaptation policy for the above maximization problem. Simulation results are also provided to show the significant performance gain achieved by our derived policy over the existing fixed dominating-position (FDP) policy.
