abstract
The proteome analysis of Escherichia coli K-12 by two-dimensional native-state chromatography and MALDI-MS was described. It was observed that the cell respond to their environment with programmed changes in gene expression. Additional validation was accomplished by comparing hybridized RNA's generated from cells grown under identical conditions to proteins identified from this method. Utilizing changes in co-purification of proteins fractionated at varying pH suggests the components of higher order complexes.
