Odd-even Z isospin anomaly in heavy-ion reactions Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • Intermediate mass fragment (IMF) production is different for the reaction pair [Formula Presented] and [Formula Presented] for which the only difference is the ratio [Formula Presented] 1.23 for [Formula Presented] and 1.07 for [Formula Presented] For beam-velocity fragments at [Formula Presented] with Z from 3 to 15 the more proton-rich Ni reaction produces more even-[Formula Presented] IMFs than the Fe reaction. The ratio (number of IMFs from [Formula Presented]/(number of IMFs from [Formula Presented] as a function of Z is about 10% larger for even-[Formula Presented] values than for odd-[Formula Presented] values. The magnitude of this odd-even effect is about the same for beam energies with [Formula Presented] 75, and 105 MeV. 1999 The American Physical Society.
