Er(7)Ni(2)Te(2): the most rare-earth metal-rich ternary chalcogenide. Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • Er7Ni2Te2 was prepared by solid-state reaction between Er, Er3Ni, and NiTe2. The X-ray single-crystal structure was refined with space group Imm2 (No. 44), a = 15.345(3) , b = 3.8377(8) , c = 9.438(2) . Magnetic measurements indicated that this material exhibits long-range ordering below 16.5 K. The new compound is the first metal-rich rare-earth chalcogenide for which an ordering transition has been observed.
