abstract
The adsorption of 1-propanethiol from ethanolic solution onto copper substrate has been investigated by infrared spectroscopy. A stable multilayer film, composed of copper 1-propanethiolate, is found to form on the copper surface. Although the detailed mechanism of film formation is uncertain, it seems to be greatly facilitated by the presence of surface oxide layers. More interestingly, the orientation of copper 1-propanethiolate does not appear to be completely random on the surface. 1993 Academic Press, Inc.
