Low-energy electron scattering from C(60) molecules Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • Electron scattering from C60 has been studied theoretically using a model interaction potential containing static-exchange and local polarization terms. The partial cross-sections for scattering in the ag and t1u symmetries at collision energies from 0.001 to 2.0 eV are presented. In this energy range scattering in the ag symmetry dominates at energies below 0.03 eV due to a near-threshold virtual state in the s-wave scattering. The results from this model suggest that low energy electron attachment in e-C60 scattering may occur through s-wave scattering which is enhanced by the presence of a virtual state. 1999 Elsevier Science B.V.
