PHOTOCHEMICALLY INDUCED CHELATE RING EXPANSION AND HYDROLYSIS REACTIONS - X-RAY CRYSTAL-STRUCTURES OF [W(PPH2OC(PH)=CHPPH2)(CO)4] AND [W(PPH2OH)(PPH2CH2COPH)(CO)4] Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • Light of intensity normally found in a laboratory transforms the 4-membered ring chelate [W{PPh2CH(COPh)PPh2}(CO)4] into the 6-membered ring chelate [W{PPh2OC(Ph) = CHPPh2}(CO) 4] and thence into a hydrolysis product [W(PPh2OH) (PPh2CH2COPh)(CO)4]; neither reaction occurs in the absence of light.
