abstract
Reactions proposed to involve the intermediacy of metal species containing the hydroxycarbonyl group, [MCOOH], are reviewed. Particular attention is given to reversible reactions of Group VIIb metal carbonyl derivatives with isotopically labelled water, which presumably proceeds via a [MCOOH] intermediate, to afford oxygen labelled metal carbonyl derivatives. The current status of the scope and mechanistic details of this oxygenexchange reaction is summarized. Copyright 1976 WILEYVCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim
