abstract
The effect of the crystallinity of -zirconium phosphate exchangers upon Li+/H+ exchange reactions was investigated. The most crystalline exchanger formed three exchanged phases of approximate composition ZrLi0.9-1.04H1.1-0.96(PO4) 24H2O, ZrLi1.33-1.50H0.67-0.50(PO4) 24H2O, and Zr(LiPO4)24H2O. As the crystallinity of the exchanger decreases the composition ranges of the exchanged phases broaden until with amorphous exchangers only a single solid solution is obtained. The exchange reaction with the amorphous zirconium phosphate is reversible with KLi/H = 6.2 10-5.
