abstract
The surface functionalization of polypropylene films is achieved using block cooligomers and the blending process called entrapment functionalization. The product films surfaces are studied after hydrolysis of the acid-labile tert-butyl ester groups. A substantial portion of the acid groups of the PAA grafts so formed are accessible to reagents in alcohol solvents. When the PAA graft is labeled with a fluorescent dansyl probe, the probe is responsive to changes in solvent. In the presence of acidic alcohol, these dansyl groups can be reproducibly protonated and deprotonated with HCl and EtN, respectively.
