abstract
Argues that research on emotion regulation in couples and families has the potential to advance not only basic science regarding family and relationship processes but also applications related to promoting individual and family well-being, preventing disruptions to emotional or physical health, and intervening with couples and families in distress. For basic and applied research on emotion regulation to progress, investigators will need to address both conceptual and theoretical issues and methodological concerns, including measurement and data-analytic strategies and the translational challenges of extending basic research findings into effective interventions. The chapter discusses conceptual and theoretical, methodological, and application issues on this topic. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
