Characteristics of sports research using the Profile of Mood States. Academic Article

abstract

• Analyzed the characteristics of 74 journals publishing articles on the Profile of Mood States (POMS). Almost 90% were published between 1981 and 1990. Analyses indicate that POMS articles can be found in 34 different journals, with dominant journals being the Journal of Sport Behavior and Perceptual and Motor Skills . Topics span 28 sport areas, with exercise, fitness, and running the most important. Female-only samples are greatly underrepresented in the studies.
