The papers by Salekin et al. (2010) and Tackett and Ostrov (2010) provide valuable data that illustrate many of the important determinations that shape the revision process of classification systems such as the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. At the same time, the papers touch upon a number of important conceptual dilemmas that challenge the discipline. I offer the following comments to highlight areas that need greater exploration; I will note that it is certainly not a criticism of these articles that important questions in the field remain, at best, only partially answered. © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2010.
