PSYCHOLOGICAL CORRELATES OF PERSONALITY-DISORDER Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • Research on the psychological features of personality disorders touches upon the center of the definitional controversies that dominate this area, because the personality disorders are themselves defined by such features. A number of research topics are emerging as areas of investigation, including symptomatic correlates, global personality traits, coping and defensive operations, and interpersonal behavior. Recently, there has been increased interest in the role of more specific psychological mechanisms in the development and maintenance of personality disorder. such as attention, information processing, and the link between cognition and affect. This review provides an overview of some of the major findings in these areas and identifies some potential obstacles to further progress.
