abstract
In a multicenter clinical trial two dosages of glycosaminoglycan polysulfate were compared in patients with primary degenerative dementia and multi-infarct dementia. There was an improvement in patients on glycosaminoglycan polysulfate on all the three items of the Clinical Global Impressions Scale, while the difference in improvement between the two dosage groups did not reach the accepted level of statistical significance. Global improvement and the improvement in severity of illness were significantly greater in the diagnostic group with primary degenerative dementia than in the diagnostic group with multi-infarct dementia. The same applies to the efficacy index on which the primary degenerative dementia group fared significantly better than the multi-infarct dementia group.
