Europium Effect on the Electron Transport in Graphene Ribbons

2015 American Chemical Society. We report in this complementary theoretical-experimental work the effect of gating on the electron transport of graphene ribbons when exposed to very low concentration of europium in an aqueous solution. We find a direct correlation between the level of concentration of europium ions in the solvent and the change in electron transport in graphene, observing a change of up to 3 orders of magnitude at the lowest level of concentration tested (0.1 mM), suggesting a possibility that graphene ribbons can be used for detecting very low concentrations of europium in liquid solutions.
