abstract
Brazil, which has a hydraulic energy matrix, has joined other sources of renewable energy, the main being the wind industry. The state of Cear, in the northeastern region of the country, has a wind power potential of 26.2 GW, however, when installed on coastal environments, it has socio-environmental impacts. Aiming to analyze this problem, this study provides an estimate of the environmental losses caused by this activity in the municipality of Acara, west coast of Cear. For its accomplishment, work was done in the field, documentary survey and analysis of satellite images. The study evidenced negative impacts, such as deforestation of the mangrove, changes in beach morphologies and disarticulation of coastal environmental dynamics. It was verified, however, the economic, social and environmental viability of this activity through its locational alternative, taking advantage of the pre-coastal trails, higher regions, of greater geomorphological stability, located at the rear of the dune fields.
