abstract
In the field of polymer tribology, little has been done to assign explicit definitions to the terms associated with the various types of surface damage from sliding contacts, especially the mar behavior. This study aims at investigating "mar" behavior on polymer surfaces via development of an effective testing and analysis methodology. The new test methodology was derived from the current ASTM/ISO scratch test method and has been applied to model TPO systems with and without slip additive that possess high and low gloss surfaces. The implications of this new test methodology compared to the current industrial practices will be discussed.
