abstract
To fundamentally understand the scratch behavior of TPOs, an integrated approach is proposed in this paper. This integrated approach involves the use of (i) a new scratch test methodology for testing, (ii) materials science tools for studying material damage and scratch visibility, and (iii) utilization of finite element modeling to examine the mechanical response of polymeric substrate during the scratch process. Applying this integrated approach to model TPO systems, the fundamental scratch behaviors of TPOs can be understood. Scratch resistant TPOs can then be efficiently designed and prepared.
