Study of fundamental impact facture behavior of TPOs using the double-notch four-point-bend technique Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • The emergence of TPOs as a new class of engineering polymers has led to significant efforts to improve engineering properties of TPOs. Impact strength is one such property in need of improvement, especially for high tacticity TPOs. Many approaches have been shown to be effective in toughening TPOs. However, the market demands for competitiveness and balanced physical/mechanical properties have made it a necessity for fundamental understanding of impact fracture behavior of TPOs. In this paper, an effective double-notch four-point-bend Charpy impact test methodology is employed to investigate the fundamental impact fracture behavior of a set of model TPOs. Key fundamental knowledge regarding impact toughening of TPOs is presented and discussed.
