IMPACT CHARACTERIZATION OF RIM COMPOSITES BASED ON KEY PARAMETERS DERIVED FROM AUTOMOTIVE EXTERIOR APPLICATIONS Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • The impact performance of reaction injection molding (RIM) composites is a major parameter in automotive exterior applications. Variation in material rating by different impact test methods indicates material performance variation with changes in application stress condition. Therefore, material selection for impact performance should be based on test methods and conditions that simulate the intended end-use application. In this paper, a set of lab-scale impact test methods is presented to characterize impact resistance and fracture mechanism of RIM polyurethane/urea plaques with and without mica filler.
