abstract
The morphology of polyurethane elastomers with ethylene glycol (EG), 1-3-propanediol (PDO), and 1,4-butanediol (BDO) chain extenders was studied. The use of mixed chain extenders in polyurethane elastomers had a dramatic effect on the polymers' physical properties. However, the changes in the morphology of the polymers corresponding to the use of mixed chain extenders were more complex than originally thought. The hard domains were highly amorphous on the molecular level, yet showed distinct ordering on the macro scale.
