Effect of additives on scratch visibility resistance of TPOs Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • The scratch behavior of a set of model TPO systems, with and without slip agent and talc surface treatment, was investigated using a new ASTM/ISO scratch test methodology. Quantitative evaluation of the scratch visibility resistance of the model TPOs was also performed. Our findings suggest that an appropriate combination of slip agent and surface treatment of talc can greatly improve the scratch visibility resistance of TPOs. The underlying mechanisms responsible for the improvement are related to the ability of slip agent to migrate to the TPO surface, which reduces scratch coefficient of friction. The usefulness of the slip agent addition for improving scratch resistance of TPOs is discussed.
