abstract
The US Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Basic Energy Sciences (OBES) is committed to train various scientists dedicated to meet the challenges of future energy research. An internal committee of scientists at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) on the other hand reviews the qualifications of every postdoctoral candidate for appointments. OBES has however stated that the energy researchers must communicate effectively with scientists in all the disciplines of BES research. It is also required that future energy scientists must possess an awareness of the social, industrial, and technological context of energy science. These training programs are aimed to provide career scientists the chance to broaden their technical expertise, gain perspective to address scientific societal needs, and develop connections that can forge connections between national laboratories.
