abstract
2014 AIP Publishing LLC. Tailoring interface structure to control interface properties promises to improve performance in a wide range of structural materials. We demonstrate an approach for designing interfaces with pre-specified internal structure and functionality using O-lattice theory. To illustrate our method, we design an interface intended to mitigate helium (He)-induced damage by promoting precipitation of He into continuous linear channels. A similar top-down design process may be used to tailor interfaces for other applications such as improved mechanical properties.
