abstract
An overview is given of recent developments in constitutive relations for the inelastic response of solids at finite strains with a focus on those features that affect the qualitative nature of boundary value problem solutions. The discussion will center on issues that pertain to the finite element analyses of localized deformation and failure in ductile solids. Some implications of material rate sensitivity are noted.
