Dislocation dynamics is chaotic

A study of the existence of chaos in the plastic flow of crystalline metals was presented. Numerical simulations of dynamics of discrete dislocations was also discussed. The results showed that dislocation dynamics itself exhibit chaotic behavior. It was also observed that the effect of chaos on the crack growth resistance was significant but the effect on overall tensile stress-strain was small.
