abstract
The geometrically necessary dislocations in nonlocal plasticity theories were discussed. The comparisons of the predictions of nonlocal plasticity theories with discrete dislocation results were described. It provided an assessement of the strengths and weaknesses of various phenomenological thoeries and a means of identifying appropriate nonlocal boundary conditions.
