abstract

  • The present work focuses on the severe plastic deformation and deformation twinning of AISI 316L austenitic stainless steel at moderate to high temperatures. Bulk stainless steel bars are severely deformed at different temperatures (450°C to 800°C) using ECAE. Higher tensile and compressive strengths are obtained after ECAE compared to as-received values in relation with the microstructural refinement and deformation twinning. The occurrence of deformation twinning at high temperatures is attributed to the heavy deformation imposed during ECAE.
