The cyclic deformation behavior of oriented Fe-28Ni-17Co-11.5Al-2.5Ta (at.%) shape memory single crystals was investigated under tension. Dog-bone shaped specimens were tested up to 100 cycles after different aging heat treatments in order to characterize the cyclic stress-strain response and functional degradation. The smaller particles formed as a consequence of short aging for 1 h at 700°C, as compared to longer aging for 7 h, resulted in significantly enhanced resistance to cyclic degradation. © 2012 World Scientific Publishing Company.
