Ti3SiC2: A layered machinable ductile carbide Academic Article

abstract

• This paper reviews the properties of the ternary layered machinable carbide, Ti3SiC2. Its mechanical, thermal and electrical properties, and their temperature dependencies, are also reviewed. The layered nature of this compound and its relationship to the mechanical properties are elucidated. Finally, the potential technological impact of this material and related materials is summarized.
