abstract

  • A programme of scientific ocean drilling in remote but geologically important areas, the Ocean Drilling Program, is described. The drilling research vessel "Joides Resolution", has undertaken drilling at more than 100 sites in the North Atlantic, the Mediterranean, the Eastern Pacific, the South Atlantic, and the Indian Ocean. The operational, technical, and scientific thrusts of the programme are reviewed.
