abstract
In use for over ten years, South's mean ceramic date has become an invaluable tool for historical archaeologists. The present paper suggests two modifications which result in slightly more accurate date estimates. In addition, a procedure for estimating occupation ranges is described that represents an expansion of the bracketing method proposed by South (1972) and later refined by Salwen and Bridges (1977). In order to facilitate use of the technique, a computer program that performs all the necessary computations is described.
