Civil Rights and Liberties in the Vocabulary of the American Founding Chapter uri icon

  • Religious sentiment both informs a people's political vocabulary and is informed by their vocabularies. What this influence was on the development and understanding of American political thought and institutions, however, is a different matter. Sketching a claim to the ongoing importance of that vocabulary in understanding American civil liberties and rights is the concern of this essay.
