abstract

  • The radioisotope precipitation (RIP) test has been adapted for detection of antibody to members of the genus Chlamydia. Suspension of meningopneumonitis particles, in most instances labeled with radiophosphorus, served as antigen. The test, as described, was group-specific. It was applied to sera from clinical cases of chlamydial infection, occupational groups heavily exposed to animals with chlamydial infection, children presumably with minimal exposure, and persons with history of chronic carditis. The RIP test detected antibody in many sera negative by complement fixation test. Its three most obvious advantages over complement fixation are greater sensitivity, requirement of less serum, and resistance to the effects of various anticomplementary factors. 1967.
