I am an applied linguist with specialization in the interdisciplinary fields of second language studies and sociolinguistics. My research focuses on language ideologies; language learner identities and emotions; English medium instruction and transnational higher education in the Arabian Peninsula; global Englishes; and Arabic heritage language learners. My work has appeared in international journals such as TESOL Quarterly, System, Multilingua, and World Englishes. I am currently editing a special journal issue on the emotional impact of English medium instruction (EMI) in higher education.
